DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS SENT TO GENEVA

Advice has been received by the National Council of Churches in New Zealand of the uses to which the funds forwarded to the World Council, of Churches in Geneva’ have been put in the last few years. The funds were distributed as follows: In 1945 19,985 Swiss francs (from the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand) provided a wooden church’ in the town of Huissen, Holland. In 1947 2700 Swiss francs (from the National Council of Churches) were given to the Societe Centrale Evangelique of the French Protestant Church; 2140 Swiss francs were given for the support of theological students in Hungary; 1960 Swiss francs were given towards the cost of the evangelisation programme in Belgium; £N.Z.7O (from moneys collected by the Christchurch diocese of the Church of England) has been forwarded for the assistance of the Siebenburger Orphanage in Rumania, which is devoted to the care of chil-

dren left destitute by the removal of parents for forced labour; £N.Z.76 (from the Christchikch diocese of the Church of England) has been forwarded towards a sum of £N.Z.500 required for the assistance of training selected theological students in Slovakia.

“The reconstruction work of the World Council of Churches has become so extensive in both Europe and Asia that the council is now one of the major relief agencies in the world,” says a statement from the National Council of Churches. “The world council aims particularly to assist the churches of stricken areas with material relief, aid in evangelism, theological training, training of lay readers, and in assistance to displaced persons . and to church schools and universities.”
