TOWN PLANNING
Sir, —Some citizens enjoy the beauties of Christchurch! If town planners lived and worked near factories, they would confine them to isolated islands where buzzings, whirrings, shakings, and smells would disturb no one, let alone those engaged in occupations needing quiet. Because in a “beautiful city” we have ugly hoardings, must we also tolerate advertising upon rubbish bins? Fully appreciating Mr Guthrey’s article, may we hope it is instrumental in the removal of those factories now in residential areas, as well as the prevention of further en r croachment upon citizens’ rights to beauty and harmony in surroundings. —Yours, etc., WHY RUBBISH? August 20, 1947.
