MEATLESS DAYS

Sir, —I am astounded by letters from “A Reader” and Louisa Miles. Each seems to think New Zealand rations ere sparse—far from it! I have been keeping house in Christchurch for over a year now, and apart from high prices of foodstuffs find it the easiest thing in the world. My husband takes a cut lunch to work each day, but we have never been short of butter; and 1 do my own baking. Naturally, I do not use entirely butter for baking; it is not necessary. Meatless days would hurt no one. In any case, there are plenty of substitutes. To suggest a few: fish, sausage, saveloys, tripe, cold cooked meats, rabbits, lambs’ fry, etc. In Britain to-day the butter ration is 2oz a .’week, meat Is 3d worth a,, week (a smaller quantity than here), and meat extras are unobtainable.—Yours, etc., BRITISH BRIDE.
