TYRE RATIONING
ABOLISHED Improved Overseas Supplies
STILL NEED FOR CAREFUL USE
(P.A.) August 22. With a substantial improvement in the shipments of tyres from overseas, there are now sufficient supplies in New Zealand of most car and truck sizes to warrant their removal from rationing control. This was announced by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr A. H, Nordmeyer) to-night. . The Minister added that permits would not be required for the purchase *“lt should be emphasised that while there are adequate supplies of tyres available in most sizes, it is still necessary to exercise caution in their use, said the Minister. “This applies particularly to the 19 and 21 inch groups because manufacturers. will not be making them in quantities sufficient to meet all immediate demands. It appears likely that the shortage of these sizes will continue for a considerable period.” Mr Nordmeyer referred to the valuable assistance given the Government by all sections of the trade and the motoring public generally during the period of tyre control, and said special mention must be made of the work of the Tyre Advisory Committee and district committees in the successful operation of the rationing plan.
