SALARIES IN PUBLIC SERVICE
PERMANENT TRIBUNAL REQUESTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 22. The appointment of a permanent Public Service Salaries Tribunal is to be requested by the New Zealand Public Service Association. The decision to make this request was made at the annual conference of the association, which authorised its executive in the meantime to negotiate for an agreement with the Government on salary adjustments arising out of the Arbitration Court increase.
The conference was addressed by Mr A. H. O’Keefe, service nominee on the Public Service Commission. The conference carried a resolution congratulating Mr O’Keefe on his appointment and in recording its confidence in him expressed regret that the remarks of the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) at the opening of the conference implied a want of confidence in Mr O’Keefe on the part of the association.
