FAMOUS SIRE DIES IN UNITED STATES
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, Aug. 21. Beau Pete, the stallion which was imported from Australia by Mr Louis B Mayer, died yesterday at Spendthrift Farm, Kentucky, at the age of 20. Mr Mayer sold Beau Pere last April to Mr Leslie Combs, owner of Spendthrift, for 100,000 dollars.
Beau Pere was ninth on the list of sires of money-winning thoroughbreds in 1946, his progeny including Honeymoon and Stepfather. Thirty-three sons and daughters of Beau Pere won 57 races, were second 57 times, and third 41 times, winning a total of 471,025 dollars.
Veterinarians were unable to give the cause of death, but they said that Beau Pere became ill and died within 24 hours.
