SOUTH ISLAND AIR TERMINAL
PRIME MINISTER TO MAKE STATEMENT
A promise to make a statement on the question of a South Island'overseas air terminal was given by the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) to a deputation from the South Island Local Bodies’ Association which waited on him in Wellington this week after the “Aid to Britain” conference. The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H. Andrews), who is president of the association, said yesterday that the deputation consisted of the Mayor of Nelson (Mr E. R. Neale, M.P.), the Mayor of Invercargill (Mr A. Wachner), Mr D. Cockburn (Lake County Council), and himself.
The Minister in charge of the Air Department (Mr F. Jones), the Director of Civil Aviation (Mr E. A. Gibson), and the chairman of the National Airways Corporation (Sif Leonard Isitt) were also present at the meeting.
INTERNATIONAL AIR SERVICES
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 22. Conditions governing the licensing of international air services operating in New Zealand are set out in the International Air Services’ Licensing Bill, which was introduced and read the first time in the House of Representatives to-day. The Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr F. Jones) said the bill simply gave legislative effect to the emergency regulations which had been operating since April. They had arisen out of the international air conference held in Chicago. The bill followed regulations closely, but penalities for breaches of the terms of a license were more severe in the bill than those prescribed in the regulations.
