FERTILISER DELIVERY UP-TO-DATE
ROAD TRANSPORT RELIEVES RAILWAY DEPARTMENT
Delivery of fertiliser for the cultivation of new season’s wheat was right up to date in the Canterbury area, an. official of the Railways Department told “The Press” yesterday. The port at Lyttelton was full of shipping, and railway waggons were in short supply and would be for another fortnight, but the department had overcome the difficulty some months ago by engaging private firms to carry supplies of fertiliser by road as far as Waikari in North Canterbury and Ashburton in Mid-Canterbury. The shortage of waggons would improve in the near future, as a shipment of 50 12-ton LA waggons from England was expected at Lyttelton on September 9. he added. It was expected that 100 would arrive every month until the quota of 500 had been filled.
