BRITAIN PRODUCES THE FIRST JET FLYING-BOAT FIGHTER.—The Saunders-Roe jet flying-boat fighter taking off from the Solent, Isle of Wight, on its first public test flight recently. The plane has twin jets giving a speed of more than 400 miles an hour, and it is armed with four cannon. The pilot, enclosed in a pressurised cabin, has an ejector type seat by which, in an emergency, he is thrown clear or the aircraft and can make a normal parachute descent. The flying-boat automatically moors itself after alighting on the water.
