FURTHER POWER CONCESSIONS
MUNICIPAL BATHS TO BE USED An extension of the time allowed for domestic water heating and for shop window lighting are among the further concessions to power consumers in Christchurch which were announced by the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) after a meeting of the City Council’s electricity emergency committee yesterday. Mr Andrews emphasised that the concessions had been made possible by the co-operation of consumers, but voluntary saving was all the more necessary because of the concessions.
Domestic water heating, which at present is allowed between 10 p.m. and noon the following day, will now be extended to between 6 p.m. and noon. Shop window lighting will be allowed between 4.30 and 8 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, and from 4.30 p.m. until closing time on Friday. The Municipal Baths will be heated three days a week, and Mr Andrews expressed the opinion that the baths would still be reasonably warm on the day following the one on which they were heated.
Nc change has been made in the hours for street lighting. Mr Andrews explained that the committee had taken into account the fact that a period of moonlight was approaching. The question of street lighting would be considered later.
