ALLEGATIONS BY DR. SJARIFUDDIN
(Rec. 7 p.m.) BATAVIA, August 21. The Indone, ian Prime Minister (Dr. Sjarifuddin) to-day estimated Dutch advances since the cease-fire order in Indonesia on June 4 at 140 kilometres in west Java, 77 kilometres in central Java, 140 kilometres in east Java, and 30 kilometres in Sumatra. “It we resist, the Dutch say we are creating disturbances, and not loyally adhering to the cease-fire," he said. “We do not want to be intimidated into surrender. We will defend our country as any State would defend Its territory." Dr. Sjarifuddin urged the people in Dutch-occupied areas not to co-oper-ate with the “enemy,” although a •‘tornado ol injustice will rage over you." He continued: “Brothers, steady your hearts. We will continue our struggle. Be it alow, victory will certainly be ours.”
Dr. Sjarifuddin charged the Dutch with using all types of aircraft, destroyers, and armed motor-boats. He claimed that their military movements were spearheaded with tanks armoured cars, and armed bulldozers, and that they were employing artillery, infantry, engineers, and paratroops. A Republican report to-day says that Republican positions west of Modjokerto have been attacked by Dutch troops from two directions, and there have been other clashes in west and central Java.
