FIVE APPLICATIONS REJECTED
RUSSIA VETOES TWO (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 21. The Security Council to-day completed consideration of the five remaining applications for membership —from Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, and Rumania. All were rejected.
Russia used her veto twice in rapid succession to-day to block the applications of Italy and Austria, thus raising her total of vetoes against majority decisions in the Security Council to 18.
