PRODUCE FOR BRITAIN

PERSONS DELAYING TRANSPORT

MR FRASER CONDEMNS ACTION

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 3. Condemnation of persons who impeded the transport of New Zealand produce to Britain was expressed by the Prime Minister vMr P. Eraser) on Saturday afternoon, when he opened the Auckland Labour Club. He said such persons were not only hurting the people of the United Kingdom, but were causing harm to New Zealand, which depended so much on the London market.

“Not only is Britain deserving of all assistance she gets from countries which appreciate what she did for freedom-loving people during the war, but she is entitled to it,” said Mr Fraser. “I am sure she will come through. The best way we can help is to see that our produce gets to Britain as quickly as possible. I want to say that every person, no matter who he is, who holds up the transport of our produce to Britain is stabbing the Mother Country in the back.” Mr Fraser also referred to the present hostilities in Indonesia, and said he hoped they would be brought quickly to an end. The war not only affected New Zealand, but might have repercussions throughout the world, he said.

He paid a tribute to the Labour Government in England, which, he said, had shown great courage over the India question.

After paying a. tribute to Mr R. F. Barter, president of the Auckland branch of the Labour Party, and to all who had been associated with him in the establishment of the first Labour Club of its kind in New Zealand, Mr Fraser declared the club open.
