SECRET BALLOTS ON STRIKES
TRADES COUNCIL OPPOSED TO AMENDMENT BILL
Opposition to the provisions in the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill for secret ballots on strikes has been expressed by the executive of the Canterbury Trades Council. The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, and the executive of the council discussed the provisions relating to strikes at a meeting on Friday. The secretary of the executive (Mr A. B. Grant) said that the only statement to be issued in the meantime was that the executive was opposed to the amendment. The national executive of the Federation of Labour would meet to-morrow, and affiliations of the council would be further advised after that meeting.
