—— MINISTER CONSIDERS LAW ADEQUATE. AT PRESENT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 30. “The criminal law as at present written is considered to be adequate to deal with theft, or with intent to commit theft,” said the Minister of Justice (Mr H. G. R. Mason), in the House of Representatives to-day, replying to a question from Mr J. K. McAlpine (Opposition, Selwyn), asking if the law could be amended to make it possible successfully to prosecute any person who wilfully broached cargo in a ship’s hold. Mr McAlpine’s question referred tft a recent prosecution of a watersider in Christchurch, end the Minister added in his reply that the question of whether or not proof of the commission of an offence was established by the prosecution was a matter solely for the Court to determine.
