BOTTLES FOR “REPEAT” MEDICINES

ORIGINAL MUST BE TAKEN BACK OR FEE PAID

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 30. From August 1 persons wishing to obtain from a chemist any “repeat” of medicine authorised on the original medical prescription would be required to return the empty medicine bottle or other glass container to the chemist, said the Minister of Health (Miss M. B. Howard) to-day. Failing the return of the original, cleaned container or a clean container of the same type, the patient would be required to pay cash for any new container supplied. Miss Howard said the shortage of glass containers of all types made it necessary to conserve the existing supply of medicine bottles. The need for salvaging all medicine bottles that were fit for further use was at least as great now as in the war years and the public’s co-operation was sought.
