REHABILITATION QUESTIONS

2ND N.Z.E.F. ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 30. The 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association conference decided to-day to ask the Government to legislate so that the wage rate of workers, irrespective of sex, should be equal for equal work. The conference also urged that the Rehabilitation Department’s branch offices be given authority to issue loans after normal investigations had been made, so that the time lag involved in referring applications to Wellington for final decision would be avoided, with a right of appeal to the national loans board. It advocated that rehabilitation committees should be reconstituted to exclude political representation as such and to include representatives of the rehabilitation office, the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association, the Trades Council, the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association. business associations, the Homeservicemen’s Association, farmers, and women’s service representatives, with power to co-opt expert advice as required. Another recommendation was that every man receiving training from the Disabled Servicemen’s Re-estab-lishment League be subsidised by the Government, irrespective of the percentage of disablement.
