QUALITY OF MEAT EXPORTS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 29. New Zealand should maintain the highest possible quality of its meat exports, said Mr A. S. Sutherland (Opposition, Hauraki) speaking on the Meat Bill in the House of Representatives to-day. He said conditions would return before long in which competitors nearer to the British market would be able to threaten New Zealand’s position if New Zealand sent inferior produce. New Zealand could not afford to delay in seeking to maintain and improve the quality of her meat exports, said Mr Sutherland. He questioned the wisdom of shipping third-grade meat abroad, even for manufacturing purposes.
