VISIT TO JAPAN CANCELLED
PRESSURE OF BUSINESS IN LONDON
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. July 29. Field-Marshal Montgomery has cancelled the visit he proposed to make to Japan and Hong Kong after- his New Zealand tour because of pressure of business in London. He will leave Whenuapai in his personal York aircraft for Sydney on his way to England on Thursday morning. Field-Marshal Montgomery said this evening that he had decided that pressure of business in London made it impossible after all for him to extend his present tour. That would unfortunately mean he could not make his projected visits to Japan and Hong Kong. He greatly regretted that he would not now have the opportunPy of meeting General MacArthur, of visiting the British Commonwealth Force in Japan, and of seeing the British authorities and garrison in Hong Kong.
