JAM IMPORTS FROM AUSTRALIA

QUESTION ASKED IN HOUSE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 29. A return showing the value of licences issued for the importation of jams from Australia was asked for by Mr J. A. Roy (Opposition, Clutha) in the House of Representatives yesterday. He asked the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) whether a subsidy would be granted on jams imported from Australia. Mr Roy said he understood that New Zealand jam manufacturers had asked for an increase in the price of jams. This was refused by the Price Tribunal, with the resuit that jam fruit was being converted into pulp.
