BOWLS

THREE SELECTOR SYSTEM ADOPTED DECISIONS OF CENTRE One selector for the whole of the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s area was insufficient, and he would move that a selection committee consisting of three members be instituted, said Mr G. Macdonald (Elmwood), when he advocated a change in the existing system of selection f6r representative fixtures, at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Bowling Centre of the New Zealand Bowling Association, last evening.

The contention that more than one selector was necessary if justice was to be done to all clubs, was not a new one, said Mr Macdonald. With 3000 playing bowlers tn the area the old arguments which sought to retain the one selector system were no longer valid. "The honours boards have proved that no one championship team can mantain its supremacy indefinitely, and if there were three selectors, then outlying and country clubs would have a better chance ot participating <n selection games, thus gaining a provincial interest, and not a local one,” said Mr Macdonald.

The motion caused considerable discus sion, one delegate saying that, in the past, country clubs had not received adequate representation in the more important fixtures because the selector seemed never to visit outlying clubs. The motion was carried by a 24 to 23 majority. This motion carried a rider whicn urged that clubs be given the opportunity to submit to the centre a list of players, approximately 10 per cent, of membership, with a limit of eight, for consideration in representative fixtures, ana that these players be eligible for the teams to be selected The list ol players submitted would be approximately two skips, two thirds, two seconds, and two leads, half of whom, one in each grade, would, if chosen, be prepared to travel away from home, and also be prepared to stand down for home fixtures, and 10 give the othei four members of his club a chance for Inclusion in the home fixtures. This was carried by 28 votes to 21 Other notices of motion considered were: that the Christchurch Bowling Centre pay the greenkeepers 12s 6d a day

for all centre fixtures, and that the centre take the necessary steps for the adoption of a uniform blazer of one neld colour with club colours on the pocket Both these notice* of motion were carried.
