EARLY FINISH OF RACE MEETINGS
FAVOURABLE COMMENT BY TRAMWAYMEN
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 28. The two-day meeting of the Avondale Jockey Club showed conclusively that the tramwayrhen’s proposals for an earlier start and finish of race meetings are both practicable and advantageous, said the secretary of the Auckland branch of the Tramways Union (Mr E. A. Whitlow). He added that the earlier finish, in particular, had been the subject of favourable comment from the general public. “The people found that with the earlier finish they were able to get away before it became too cold towards dusk,” said Mr Whitlow, “and the earlier start justified itself from the changed nature of Saturday; which is now almost generally a full holiday ’’ The secretary of the Avondale Jockey Club (Mr J. Rawson) said the meeting on Saturday was very satisfactory. and the totalisator had closed for the last race at 4 p.m. as scheduled. From that it could be judged how smoothly the day had gone. Racegoers generally agreed that the arrangements were satisfactory, and there had been no undue rush at the totalisator.
