CONTINUANCE OF STRUGGLE
Indonesian People’s Resolve DR. SJAHRIR IN INDIA (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) NEW DELHI. July 26. “The Indonesians will continue to fight with all they have,” said Dr. Sutan Sjahrir, the former Indonesian Prime Minister, in a message to the people of India. “From a military point of view, the Indonesians are not well off. They have tried hard to protect their national interests by peaceful methods, but the Dutch forced an armed conflict on us. “The alternatives are continuing the war, or a peaceful settlement ensuring the independence of Indonesia before 1949, with an interim period of trusteeship.” Mr Jinnah, leader of the Moslem League, in 2 statement after a meeting with Dr. Sjahrir. said he was sure that the civilised nations of the world would not tolerate the Dutch action of declaring war against Indonesia, ignoring arbitration, and ruthlessly using armed force. “India and Pakistan will consider this as an unfriendly action on the part of Holland, calculated to crush freedom in the new democratic Moslem nation of Indonesia.” said Mr Jinnah. “I assured Dr. Sjahrir that we will support the Indonesians in every way possible.”
