COOGEE WINS CHURCHILL HANDICAP

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 27. The Avondale Jockey Club’s winter meeting concluded yesterday. After a heavy shower before the first race, the

weather cleared, but the track was holding. The totalisator handled £139.399, making the total for the meeting £250,056 10s. A protest against Boswell Hill, the winner of the Victory Hack Handicap, .on the grounds of alleged interference with the second horse. Bettermusk, was dismissed. A. Morton, the rider of Lotto, which finished third in the Windsor Hurdles on the first day, was fined £ 5 for riding without a licence, and third money was awarded to the fourth horse. Race Chum. Secret pre-dawn gallops fitted the New Zealand-bred gelding. Lucky Robin, for an impressive two-lengths win in the 10 furlong Mixed Stakes at Rosehill yesterday. Tipsters said that the gelding “might be outclassed.” but when let go he stepped out to win in fine style. He had two unplaced starts in New Zealand and ran third in his only previous race in “Australia after a fast finish. Results:—

Lucky Robin is a three-year-old chestnut colt by Robin Goodfellow from Queen’s Salute, by Chief Ruler from Soot, by All Black from Salute, by Soult. and is a half-brother to Salutation, which won the New Zealand Oaks, Wellington Guineas, and the Thompson Handicap. He was bred by Mr F. B. Donnelly at the Flaxmere Stud, near Hastings, and was sold as a yearling to Mr J. Jamieson, of Masterton. for 800 guineas.
