OAMARU SAVAGE CLUB’S RAID

VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH CLUB

A raid on the Christchurch Savage Club was made in the week-end by the president, Great Chief J. Meikle, and 35 members of the Oamaru Savage Club. The Oamaru members were the guests of the Christchurch club on Saturday evening, when they were welcomed by Great Chief C. S. Luney. This was a particularly pleasurable visit, said Great Chief Meikle, replying to Great Chief Luney, as it marked a continuous interchange of raids since the Christchurch Club, headed by Savages C. E. Jones and A. E. Loach, was responsible for forming the Oamaru club in 1929. A programme was provided by the visitors, augmented by the Christchurch club’s orchestra, conducted by Past Chief L. Barnes. Items were given by the following: Braves G. Martin and S. Armstrong, Savages F. Lavender, D and G. Swan, R. Snowden, E. Chapman. Colin Campbell, E. McNulty, W. Strang, and J. McMullan. Savage McMullan was accompanist. Past Chief H. Hay 'Oamaru) was presented with the Christchurch club’s badge in recognition of his services to savagery.
