U.S. AND ROCKET RANGE

“OBSERVERS WILL BE SENT ”

COMMENT ON SYDNEY REPORTS

(Rec. 7 p.m.) WASHINGTON, July 25. Authoritative informants to-day said that American observers would undoubtedly be sent to Australia as soon as operations began in the rocket experiments in the British Empire range. They were commenting on reports from Sydney that the United States might share in rocket-bomb experiments on the Australian range. Official secrecy surrounds this matter, therefore the extent of American participation cannot be defined. A spokesman for the United States Atomic Energy Commission said: ‘‘We are under orders to say nothing beyond what was in Our ripdrt t 6 Congress.’ ' This report stated that the Atomic Energy Commission was establishing proving grounds in the Pacific for routine experiments and tests of atomic weapons.
