THEFT OF LINEN FROM SHIP

TWO MEN PLEAD GUILTY Hugh Dunlop Davidson, a ship’s fireman, of no fixed abode, and Dennis Store, a fireman in the ship Samlamu, were charged before ’ Justices of the Peace in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday with stealing three rolls of linen, valued at £44, the property of Kinsey and Company, Ltd. Evidence was given that Store had been seen coming up from a hold in the steamer Samlamu at midnight on Wednesday. The police were called and found the men with the linen, which had been taken from a case that had been broken open. Both the accused pleaded guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Davidson was further charged with aeing a rogue and a vagabond in that he aad been found without lawful excuse on aoard the ship Samlamu He pleaded ’uilty and was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment.
