A TETHERED DOG

Sir, —l hope this will catch the eye of the owner of a collie dog'that I rescued^*from accident on Friday last. Tethered by a short strap to the end of a bicycle stand in Colombo street with parked bicycles behind him, he was, at the moment I was passing, in immediate danger of being crushed by a motor-car which I quickly stopped from backing over him. Unable to move, the dog was frightened and suspicious of my approach, but I convinced him of my goodwill and eventually persuaded him to let me move him from the gutter to the footpath. May I suggest that if dogs must .be tethered to these stands, they should be so placed on the inner side lof the stands that they are not able to wander into the gutter.—Yours, etc., VISITING MEMBER, S.P.C.A.
