WANGANELLA REPAIRS
« COMPLETION BEFORE NEXT MAY UNLIKELY WELLINGTON, July 24. It will probably be May or June of next year before the Wanganella resumes the Tasman run, even if normal labour conditions apply when repair work begins with the arrival of the prefabricated steel parts from England, according to an authoritative estimate.
Five hundred tons of this material was ordered from the United Kingdom. The latest word is that construction has begun, and the parts may arrive at the end of this year. The task of fitting will take five or six months. It will be the largest job of its kind in New Zealand maritime history.
