TRACK WORK YESTERDAY

BRIDGE ACRE SPRINTS ATTRACTIVELY

Prominent candidates for the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting to-morrow, and the Grand National meeting commencing next week, sprinted attractively at Riccarton yesterday morning, when the outside of the course proper was open for fast work. Tne track was cutting out in places, but some good times were recorded. The best sprint of the morning was recorded by Bridge Acre. Others to register good times were Pensacola, Graeme, Findon, Soneri, Bobby Dazzler, and the maiden. Detract. Rival Chase was two lengths in front of Wide Range at the end of four furlongs in 52 3-ssec. Wide Range was under a good hold and could have improved. Lodestar returned similar time over the same journey. Miss Medley had a slight advantage over Mestiza at the end of six furlongs in Imin 18 3-ssec, the last half in 51 4-5 sec. Zorro completed five furlongs in Imin 4 2-ssec. the last half in 51 4-ssec. Wandering Minstrel and Fading Light went over the same ground in Imin 7 4-ssec, the last half in 53 l-ssec. Lady Welbeck took 53 l-ssec for four furlongs, and Coral Arc was not hurried to return 56sec. First Race Detract, which will have his first race in the Haldon Stakes to-morrow, impressed when he had the advantage on Carry On at the end of four furlongs in 49 4-ssec. Carry On had a length and a half advantage at the start, but Detract soon caught him and Carry On was being kicked up to keep with Detract at the finish. Blue Hussar and Beechwood finished well clear of Pedahtic over a mile in Imin 48 4-ssec, the last half in 53 4-ssec Pedantic got his tongue over the bit in the run home. Graeme drew right away from Night Blush over the concluding stages of four furlongs to finish five lengths clear and record 49sec. Over the same distance. Ballochbuie finished a neck in front of Deficiency in 51 3-ssec. Palm Bearer covered five furlongs in Imin 5 l-ssec, the last half in 51sec. Lambro and Strathconan completed a similar task in Imin 4 3-ssec, the last half in 52sec.

Dash o’ Dink returned 52 4-ssec for four furlongs. Hymn of Hate was going better than Mentor to return 53 l-ssec. Citril was not extended to return 55sec.

Findon struck out freely over five furlongs to record Imin 3 4-ssec, the last half in 49 4-ssec. Findon looks in splendid order for his coming engagements. Pensacola broke away a length and a half in front of Bridge Acre, but the latter closed on Pensacola in the run home and finished on terms to complete four furlongs in 48 3-ssec. Detain was under a good hold to return 54sec for the same distance, while Falconbridge ran the last four furlongs of a mile gallop in 54 l-ssec. Royal Robe and Erinborough were on terms at the end of six furlongs in Imin 20 2-ssec, the last half in 53 4-ssec. Both Martial Note and Front Page were being eased at the end of five furlongs in Imin 7 2-ssec, the last half in 54 3-5 sec. Front Page has freshened up nicely since he last raced at Oamaru on June 14. Robihgay and Queen’s General completed seven furlongs in Imin 35sec, the last half being run in the slow time of 56 l-ssec. Bobby Dazzler came home well to beat Hakim by half a length over five furlongs in Imin 3 3-ssec, the last half in 51 4-ssec. Soneri Soneri was going very easily when finishing a neck in front of Lord Elgin at the end of six furlongs in Imin 17sec, the last half in 50 l-ssec. Lord Elgin is now striding out well in his work and has furnished into a solid horse. Our Maureen could have improved on the Imin ssec she returned for her fivefurlong task. She ran the last half in 51 3-ssec. Our Maureen looks improved with her race last Saturday. Kosciusko and Beaugard returned Imin 6 2-ssec for a similar task, the last half in 53 l-ssec. Eudora beat Cipher by two lengths over four furlongs in 50 2-ssec. Over the same distance. Agenda finished three lengths in front oi Miss Mahatma to record 51 3-5 Desert Victory and All Quality were together at the end of a mile in Imin 49 l-ssec, the last half in 53 l-ssec. Killfast and Red Glare worked over the same

ground in Imin 50 3-ssec, but took 56sec for the last half. Peculate was not troubled to beat Valiant Prince over four furlongs in 50sec. Royal Tan and Magnaform returned 52 l-ssec for a similar task.

Legal Rose ran four furlongs up the back in 54 2-ssec. Faultrosa and Vulnerable followed in 51sec. Faultrosa led early, but Vulnerable had closed on her at the finish. Ganjah and Sahib were together on the completion of five furlongs in 50 2-ssec. On the No. 6 grass. Flying Orders beat Kirkella by three-quarters of a length over six furlongs in Imin 17 2-ssec, the last half in 52 l-ssec. Flying Orders had the worse of the weights. Schooling Tasks There was very little schooling over hurdles or .he steeplechase fences during the morning, most of the candidates for the jumping races being galloped on the course proper. The times were slow, as was to be expected. Waihopi, Tissue Paper, and Ballyaggan were schooled over five fences on the trial steeplechase course. Ballyaggan Smped slowly at the last two, the brush üble, and finished three lengths behind the other pair. Knight Crusader and Handle also clear-, ed four hurdles, the former finishing well clear.

CHARGE OF CORRUPT PRACTICE

(P.A.) WELUNGTON, July 24. At a special meeting of the Wellington District Committee to-day, evidence was heard on a charge against a man who appeared before the committee. The charge was laid under Rule 338 (1) (A),

which states: "Every person commits a -corrupt practice within the meaning of these rules who in New Zealand or any other country, corruptly gives or offers, directly or indirectly, any money, present, share in a bet, or other benefit, to any person having official duties in relation to a race, or to any owner, trainer, rider, or other person having charge of or ac-

cess to any horse.’’ The inquiry related to the running of a race at the Wairarapa Easter meeting. The hearing, which occupied the whole of to-day, was adjourned, and it will be resumed on Friday, August 1.
