PRISONER ESCAPES FROM COURT

RECAPTURE AFTER SHORT CHASE

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 23. A determined attempt to escape wal made by Herbert Heka. aged 28. at 530 p.m. to-day, immediately after he had been convicted by a jury with another man on four out of seven charges of burglary and theft and car conversion. Heka had been remanded by Mr Justice Callan for sentence at a later date and was being escorted from the Supreme Court bqilding. He come downstairs and haa turned into the main vestibule when suddenly he made a dash through the' main entrance door and heaoed off across Anzac avenue and down Constitution Hill. ‘ Heka’s surprise dash had gained him a start, but in a matter of seconds goalers and police were in full PU r ' suit. He was seen to disappear into a Maori hostel at the foot of Constitution Hill, and when he emerged * few seconds later he was captured by Constable Bryant.
