LORD MONTGOMERY’S VISIT

Sir,—Mr Efford is greatly concerned at tne deadly menace to civilisation of tne atomic bomb and is alarmed by tne thought of what will happen if it is used by any Power for aggressive purposes but, despite the failure Oi his methods or those advocated by him, which brought us to the brink of disaster in two world wars, he is prepared to try the same again. Evidently re is a born optimist and has an unmistakable single-track mind. However. nothing is impossible to a visionary: but to expect the olive branch to render the atomic bomb innocuous is, especially in the light of very recent events, asking too much from my credulity.—Yours, etc. O. M. BRUNDALL. July 22, 1947.
