OBITUARY

MR W. B. DALY The death occurred this week of Mr William Bede Daly,, a well-known figure in the Cheviot district, at the age of 86 years. Arriving in New Zealand in his teens, Mr Daly first worked at contract ploughing and broke in much tussock country in different parts of Canterbury. He was a member of the Police Force for some time before entering the employ of Sir George Clifford at Stonyhurst. While working at Stonyhurst, Mr Daly met Miss Christina Mary Stibbs, whom he married. He worked on the construction of ■ the railway line to Mina and afterwards took up land at Port Robinson, which he farmed until shortly before his death. He was harbourmaster at Port Robinson and for many years foreman of the Cheviot County Council. . Mr Daly is survived by his wife.
