PRODUCTION DRIVE IN BRITAIN
LABOUR NEEDS OF MAJOR INDUSTRIES (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, July 3. The British Government is intensifying its campaign for recruiting labour for the mines, agriculture, and the textile industries. In this and other ways, it is giving a greater impetus to the general production drive as a sequel to the cuts in imports announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Dr. Hugh Dalton). The aim is to secure 40,000 additional workers for both the mines and agriculture, and 75,000 for the textile industries. New poster and advertisement appeals are to be made to women in cotton and woollen towns, and there will be a drive to improve out-of-date and uncomfortable factories.
