ART GALLERIES AND MUSEUMS

ASSOCIATION FORMED (P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 3. Delegates from New Zealand museums and art galleries to-day lormed a Dominion organisation to be known as the Art Galleries and Museums Association of New Zealand. The objects are: To raise the standard of service given by art galleries and museums in their spheres of art, science, education, and cultural recreation; to increase and diffuse Knowledge on all matters relating to art galleries and museums; to encourage helpful relations among art galleries and museums, their governing bodies, and staffs; to provide means for improving the qualifications of curators and staffs and for ensuring for them adequate remuneration; to hold courses of instruction and examinations in curatorship; to issue diplomas or certificates.

Officers elected were: president. Dr. W. R. B. Oliver; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Barr and G. Bestall; chairman of the council. Dr. R. A. Falla; honorary secretary, Dr. J. T. Salmon; honorary treasurer, Mr W. T Phillips; council, Mr G. P. Hawkins. Mr R. S. Duff, Dr G. Archey, Dr H. D. Skinner, and Colonel C. Brereton.
