AUCKLAND WAR MEMORIAL

EXTENSION TO MUSEUM PROPOSED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 18. A decision to recommend to the Auckland War Memorial General Committee that the proposed extensions to the war memorial museum be adopted as a plan for commemorating the second World War was made at a meeting of the planning committee. The committee had earlier eliminated all but three schemes and those rejected yesterday were for a community centre in the Auckland Domain, proposed by the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association, and a new veterans’ home, proposed by the Auckland Returned Services’ Assojption. It will also be a recommendation to the general committee that an application be made to the Government for a subsidy for the memorial scheme. * The scheme recommended was originally placed by the Mayor (Mr J. A. C. Allum) before a meeting of citizens last October. It provides for the completion of the existing museum building with additions estimated to cost about £350.000.
