NEW VAUDEVILLE COMPANY

EXTENSION TO N.Z. OF TIVOLI CIRCUIT The extension to New Zealand of the ‘‘Tivoli Circuit,” controlling a cnain of theatres in Australia, was discussed in Christchurch yesterday by Mr W. R. Chrisp, advance business representative for the_present tour by the Tivoli Vaudeville Revue Comgkny. This company will present “It’s Foolish But It’s Fun.” Mr Chrisp described it as “the most lavish company that has evter visited New Zealand, 7 ’ and mentioned that it travelled with 94 tons of scenery and 1000 frocks. Mr Chrisp said that the circuit possessed one of the most important chains of theatres in Australia, and operated on a, scale sufficiently large for it to engage the best artists from both England and America. Performers, he said, were only too pleased to accept an opportunity to travel south, and so miss the winter bf the northern hemisphere, as well as to visit new countries. Because of the widely dispersed cities In Australia, travel difficulties made it almost impossible for large companies to tour that country extensively, and so the circuit was confined to the. more thickly-populated area. This had meant that seasons had been comparatively small. Mr R. J. Kerridgc had joined forces with Mr David N. Martin, director of the Tivoli company, and as a result the circuit had been extended to New Zealand. “With this present tour we are testing the ground,” Mr Chrisp commented. “We are getting everything charted and setting in hiotion the Tivoli, Circuit in this country. If the people of Christchurch Wish to see more of this class of show, and of outstanding artists of international fame, it is up to them to i give their full co-operation, as the reception accorded to the present company will determine whether or not a centre is to be retained on the company’s itinerary.
