U.S. BROADCASTS TO RUSSIA
AUTHORISING BILL INTRODUCED (Rec. 7 pan.) WASHINGTON, May 6. in view of the rejection by the Hous© Appropriations Committees of General Marshall’s plea for the retention of funds for “Voice of America” broadcasts. a member of the House of Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr Karl Mundt, has introduced a bill authorising the dissemination of American propaganda by radio, magazine, and news service. [The House Appropriations Committee, in deleting from the appropriations the entire fund of 31,381,220 dollars sought for the State Department’s * Division of Information and Cultural Relations, which controls the Government’s overseas broadcasts, contended that the broadcasts were not authorised by any specific law, were “out of tune with American precedents and principles,” and had been badly Kdled.l
