CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW The high quality of the blooms exhibited was the subject of comment by judges *at the annual chrysanthemum show of the Lyttelton Methodist Church yesterday. The show, which was opened in the Oddfellows* Hall by the Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester), drew a large attendance during the afternoon and evening. The public will have another opportunity to see the exhibition to-day. Entries in the Various sections totalled 258, compared with 230 at last year’s show. The outstanding bloom was exhibited by Mr H. Blackler, whose Patricia Barnett was awarded a premier prize. Mr Manson won the J. T. Norton Cup, the principal award of the show. ’ Other award winners were as follows: Trophy presented by the Lyttelton Horticultural Society for intermediate blooms: Mr Arnold (Cashmere). Hollis Cup, for beginners: The Rev. R. G. Bell. Prize for exhibition singles: Mr Manson (Monck’s Spur). F. H. Heal trophy for miscellaneous cut blooms: Mr Manson. Mrs E. Harvey’s trophy for exhibitors up to 12 years of age: Thomas Mutton. Challenge cup and Mrs E. Harvey’s prize for exhibitors aged 13 to 18: Gerard McCarthy.- Award for vegetable section: Mr W. T. Huston. Award for domestic section: Mrs F. Coleman. Awaad for fancywork : Miss N. Watkins and Miss N.- Sluce (equal). The judges were:—Cut blooms, Mr F. T. Tindall; decorative section, Mrs E. L. King; .domestic section, Mesdames W. T. Lindsay and Day; vegetable section, Mr G. Milne; fancywork section, Mrs Brockett. Children’s Party A children’s party given recently by the Lyttelton Plunket Society was attended by more than 400 boys, girls, and parents. Waverley Nolan was chosen as queen, and was attended by eight maids of honour. The following children received prizes for their costumes .—June Loader, Shond Hannah, Philip Bennett. Grant Nolan, and Owen Souter (tiny tots); Jean Hannah, Lorraine Loader. Jennifer Mills, William Vickers, Evan Woods, and T. Henderson (under five); Dorothy Wilson, Linda Conradie. Yvonne Oakley, Anthony Loader, and Russell Forman (under seven); Clate Mannings. Janice Searly, Ann Collier, P. Hughes, and Raymond Paulger (under nine): Lena Tflcau, Dorothy Williams. Margaret Osborne. Fay White. Bruce Wales, and Allan Hammond (over nine).
