CAMP FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
NEW COMMANDANT APPOINTED (Rec. 10 p.m.) NICOSIA, May 5. Lieutenant-Colonel R. E. Mayell has been appointed to succeed Colonel W. H. Widdecombe as commandant of the Caraolos camp for Jewish illegal immigrants. Colonel Widdecombe requested a transfer following a hunger strike at the camp against the reduced quota of admission into Palestine. Colonel Widdecombe said he sympathised with the internees.
