CRUELTY TO A DOG
Sir,—l challenge “B. Consistent” ,to wear the canvas rubber-soled shoes that are obtainable! “B. Consistent” is so keen on seeing other people’s faults that the oddity of wearing boots or shoes with leather is remarkable. Are airmen in icing conditions to be denuded of leather jackets, Eskimos to freeze in Arctic conditions, and people in parts of Canada where, if iron is touched with bare fingers they drop off with frostbite, all to be exterminated? The reply to a question at the animal welfare meeting that “The law of love would prevent rabbits from breeding,” when obviously it is what causes them to breed, shows to what extent unbalanced reasoning can go. Several elderly members, genuine animal lovers, were hurt by spiteful criticism about fur coats. Forcing extremist opinions on people with a sledgehammer does not make them acceptable.—Yours, etc., INCONSISTENT.
