ROWING

INTER STATE EIGHTOAR RACE

VICTORIA WINS FROM N.S.W. (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) PERTH. May 6. The King's Cup inter-state rowing contest for eights was rowed in very rough water over two miles instead of the usual three. Because of bad weather it had been postponed three times from Saturday. During the last quarter-mile the Tasmanian boat broke in two, but the members of the crew were rescued without mishap. From the start New South Wales and Victoria were alternately in the lead. New South Wales was in front by half a length at the mile. Victoria then moved ahead again to win by a length and a quarter. Western Australia finished strongly and just failed to overhaul the tiring New South Wales crew. The Australian sculling championship, rowed over the same course, was won by M. Wood, New South Wales, by six lengths.
