CHEVIOT TROTTING CLUB

EXTRA PERMIT SOUGHT The Cheviot Trotting Club, which at present held one totalisator permit a year, sought an extra permit, said Mr J. D. Hutchison, yesterday, when he made submissions on behalf of the club to the Royal Commission on Gaming and Racing. The club had purchased a course at Spotswood, he said, but would have to continue racing at Rangiora until it obtained building permits. In 1936, when the club raced at Cheviot, it had received 83 acceptances. In 1946, when the meeting was held at Rangiora, 212 were received, and in 1947, also at Rangiora, there were 248. The chairman of the commission (Mr Justice Finlay) said it might be possible for the club to submit a proposition that would relieve it of what might be called the odium that it wanted the extra permit to race at Rangiora, or that it required it toi obtain money with which to build' on its new course. It was agreed that the club would make a written submission to the commission.
