LORNEVILLE INVERCARGILL, May 6. Yardings in all sections at Lorneville to-day were small, but prices did not become firm until the second half of the sale. The entry of 581 fat sheep consisted chiefly of wethers, the majority of which were medium-weight and fair quality. Values compared with previous weeks for wethers were on a similar basis, but ewes were a shade firmer. Medium-weight young wethers made 40s to 42s 3d, good quality medium-weights 36s to 38s, lightweights 33s to 355, unfinished 28s to 31s two-tooth maiden ewes 28s to 32s 6d. good quality butchers’ ewes 23s to 255. and freezing sorts 19s to 225. The fat cattle numbered only 72, but tttfe quality was good. Values over the first half of the sale were little or no better than last week, but there was a firming tendency over the concluding stages. Prime quality medium-weight bullocks made £l7 10s to £l9, handyweights, £l5 10s to £l7, light-weight £ll to £l2 10s, prime heavy heifers £l4 10s to £l6, good quality medium-weights £l2 to *l3 10s, small and light £lO 10s to £ll 10s, heavy-weight cows £l2 to £l3 10s, medium quality £9 10s to £lO 10s. and aged £6 to £7 10s. RANGIORA There were medium yardings in all sections at the weekly Rangiora stock market yesterday, and prices generally were firm at late rates. Fat iambs made from 20s to 25s 2d; two-tooth wethers, from 23s .6d to 275, and aged ewes made up to 9s. Store cows brought from £4 5s to £4 16s, and 18 months old steers made up to £7 ss. In the pig section, stores made from 27s to 435, and weaners from 6s to Ils. ASHBURTON There was a good average yarding at the Ashburton stock sale yesterday, and prices for wethers were the best for some time. Fat ewes brought up to 17s for lightweights, to 19s 6d for medium grade, to 20s 6d for good quality, and to 23s Id for prime heavy ewes. R. G Hyde (Dromore) sold nine at this price. A line of 120 three-quarterbred ewe lambs realised 27s 6d Fat wethers realised up to 36s for medium grade, to 40s lOd for good quality, and to 49s 4d for prime heavy wethers. J. McCosker (Riverside) sold four twotooths at this price, and four at 48s LOd and 48s Id In the cattle section a cow and caff sold at £7, a fifth calver at £lO, and a fourth calver at £9 10s One dairy cow in calf brought £5 10s Two fat cows made £9 and £6 17s 6d.
