ELLESMERE DRAINAGE
CATCHMENT BOARD TAKES OVER CONTROL The North Canterbury Catchment Board will take over the control of the works and staff of the Ellesmere Land Drainage Board next Saturday, according to a decision made yesterday at a meeting between representatives of the two boards. Until the necessary Order-in-Coun-cil is made, validating the merger the administrative staff of the Drainage Boerd will function, and its rates will l»e collected, with no increase. Ihe chairman of the Drainage Board (Mr F. Coop) will be co-onted as an advisory member of the Catchment Board, and with two other members of his board will form an advisory committee for the Catchment Board’s engineer (Mr H. W. Harris). If the advisory committee considers necessary works beyond those nrovided for in the Drainage Board’s estimates. or the Arbitration Court grants a general wage increase the Catchment Board does not undertake to relieve the Drainage Board’s ratepayers. The conditions of the merger are those which were outlined to the deputation from the Drainage Board which waited on the Catchment Board on Friday.
