PRINTERS’ STRIKE IN MELBOURNE
MELBOURNE. April 16. The mechanical sections of the Victorian Printing Operatives’ Union decided at a stop-work meeting yesterday to go on strike. * The newspapers affected are the Melbourne “Herald,” “Sun.” “NewsPictorial.” “Age,” and “Argus.” The union is claiming the recent 7s a week increase in the basic wage. The proprietors claim that the recent award anticipated and provided for the 7s.
The Melbourne “Herald” came out yesterday in reduced size.
