SHIP ON FIRE OFF WEST INDIES
NOW SAID TO BE U.S. TANKER LONDON, April 15. Lloyd’s, which reported yesterday that the British steamer Somerset was on fire off Aruba (West Indies), now says that the Somerset’s owners have received a message from their Curacao agents stating that the ship on fire is the American tanker Fisher’s Hill (10.195 tons), not the Somerset.
It was reported yesterday that Lloyd’s had received a report that the British steamer Somerset (9940 tons), bound for Dunedin from Avonmouth, had sent a message to Barbadoes stating: “Engineroom on fire five miles off Aruba (West Indies). Crew abandoned ship. Understand Panamanian tanker Misoa and tug are proceeding to the position.”
