GERMAN TIMBER FOR BRITAIN

(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 16. Under a scheme known as “Operation Woodpecker,” forestry units of the British Army on the Rhine are engaged in felling timber from German forests in the Harz mountains for use in Britain. A decision to use German timber in Britain was reached late last year, and up till the end of March nearly 40,000 tons had been sent to this country—enough to build 7000 houses.
