FOOD PARCELS FROM N.Z.

GRATITUDE OF BRITISH PEOPLE (P.A.) . AUCKLAND. April 16. Gratitude with which the people of Britain received food parcels from New Zealand and other Dominions, and the assistance they gave in supplementing the rigid rationing system, was frequently commented upon by passengers arriving by the Port Hobart from London. “The food position is bad, and the present winter has not helped,” said Dr. G. L. Rolleston, a New Zealander, who has returned to take up a position as assistant-radiologist with the Christchurch Hospital Board. Dr. Rolleston said that meals in London restaurants were poor and not very sustaining. He agreed that the housewife had a hard task, and added that regular power cuts for some hours each day made matters worse. Supplies of coal were short, and, although they could be ordered, one was never sure when they would be received.
