FIVE RECORDS BROKEN PAPANUI TECHNICAL SCHOOL SPORTS All records tor the mile race in the of the Fapanui Technical 1 School s athletic sports, which were held yesterday, were broken, and two tunes for the 880 yards distance were bettered, making a total of five new records established at the meeting. In the senior mile, W. I. Birch registered smin "sec, taking 2 4-ssec off the previous record. Birch also broke the record for the senior 880 yards event by 1 l-ssec his time being 2min 18 3-ssec. W. Landery lowered the time, for the intermediate mile to smin 16 2-ssec, the previous record being smin 21sec.’ B. Shaw clipped more than lOsec off the previous time for the junior mile, setting a new mark of smin 17 4-ssec. Shaw also broke the record for the junior 880 yards, his time being 2min 27 3-ssec. The previous record of 2min 28sec was set in 1945. The track was in good order, and the light breeze had little effect on times generally.
